Please use this site to find resources related to sixth grade social studies at Grant Middle School, Grant, Michigan.
This course is taught by Mr. Hills.

Reminder: Students may not search for answers for any of my test, quiz or assignment questions using a search engine on the Internet. Students may only use the resources found on this website or given to them in the classroom to help them with their assignments. (Everything I pass out in class is available on this site.)"Open notes" does not mean "open Internet." Students who use the Internet to search for answers to assignment questions will be given a zero for that assignment and not allowed to retake it.

Click on today's lesson page of this site for the calendar of assignments.

Google Classroom Note: I will not be using Google Classroom for this year. All graded assignments will be given on www.quia.com/web. Please see the testing page on this site for more information about Quia and the "today's lesson" section for a list of assignments.

All at home students must check Mavin daily. (Please use Google Chrome for Mavin.)
In-school students may sometimes use Mavin in the classroom.
If for some reason, Mavin is not working, check the "today's lesson" section of this website and complete that task if possible.

All students taking this course should:
   1. read their student text or listen to it on this site with an adult for at least 5-10 minutes each day.
   2. review their vocabulary list for at least 5 minutes each day.
   3. check the "today's lesson" section of this website.
   4. study for tests and quizzes using the provided study guides.
   5. go to the "video lessons" section of this site when directed and view the lesson for the day.

All students will complete all graded assignments on Quia.com.

This site may contain links to other sites and videos. I do my best to link quality sites. However, I can't control some of the content and comments on other sites. Please view all linked websites and videos before showing them to your student. Some people don't always play nice.

Students are given about 5-10 school days to finish most assignments. Late assignments will be discounted 20%.

LESSONS
I will be using lessons created by the Oakland Intermediate School District (Michigan). To view these lessons and resources please use this site. After clicking, click on the unit and look for the lesson or student resources for that lesson. Students who miss a day of class should use this resource to keep up with the rest of the class. A course outline can be found by following this link.
(Note to teachers; If you would like copies of all the assessments I have created for the Oakland units visit me on Quia.com or send me an email.)

TESTING
We will do all our tests, quizzes and other assignments on this www.quia.com/web. You may visit the Quia site to take tests, see scores from past assessments and to try activities related to the course. Classwork counts for 50% of a students overall grade and testing the other 50%.

SKYWARD
We will continue to use Skyward as our official online grade-book. If you are not signed up to use Skyward, please fill out and return this form to gain access to the site. Once students complete and assignment on Quia, I will enter that grade into the Skyward gradebook. You can view your student's grades on Skyward. Not all grades on Quia will show up on the report-card. Due to occasional grade adjustments, the grades in Quia and Skyward may not always match, however, the grades in Skyward are always the official grades for this course.
